Along with the provisions of the POCSO Act, Pant Nagar Police have reportedly invoked Sections 78 and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deal with stalking and causing hurt. According to a report, the actor was arrested from his residence in Dahisar on Friday and was later presented before a special POCSO court, which sent him to police custody.
The complaint filed by a resident of an eastern suburb stated that Rohit Chandel allegedly made repeated calls to the minor girl using his personal phone number as well as several other numbers, causing her harassment. The complaint further alleged that on July 5, the actor confronted the girl near her residential building, followed her, started an argument, used abusive language and physically assaulted her by hitting her with his hands.
Police officials stated that the accused actor and the minor girl were known to each other. A police official reportedly said that after receiving the complaint, a case was registered, the accused was arrested and further investigation was underway.
The investigation into the matter is currently ongoing. The actor or his representatives have not issued any statement regarding the allegations so far.
Rohit Chandel is a 29-year-old actor from Maharashtra. He began his acting journey through a commercial advertisement after facing rejection in more than 90 auditions. In 2014, he made his television debut with the BIG Magic series Every Difficulty Solved by Akbar Birbal in a minor role. He later appeared in several Hindi television series in significant roles.
Chandel gained recognition for portraying Baji Rao in the television serial Kashibai Bajirao Ballal. He is also known for playing Dhawal Makwana in Pandya Store. He was recently seen in the television show Sairaab.
The case involving the television actor has brought renewed attention to allegations of harassment and crimes involving minors, with authorities continuing their investigation into the matter.
